Villa Belrose Saint-Tropez: My Hotel Review & Guide

Perched above the Gulf of Saint-Tropez in the hills of Gassin, Villa Belrose is a quiet five-star hotel just outside town. Thirty-nine rooms and suites sit among pine trees and gardens, with panoramic views across the water and a feeling of being completely removed from the busier energy of Saint-Tropez.
It is polished, peaceful, and very romantic. Stay here when you want the Saint-Tropez experience but do not necessarily want to be in the middle of the scene the entire time.

Rooms at Villa Belrose
The rooms are soft and colorful without feeling too themed, with muted green walls, warm orange details, sculptural lighting, and large terraces.
Ask for a sea-view room rather than a garden-view room. The view is the reason you came, and you want to wake up inside it.
The bed was genuinely so comfortable, which matters after a long day in the sun or going into town for dinner. The staff also made me feel very welcomed from the moment I arrived.
The Grounds
There are two pools, a sea-view fitness and beauty area, and gardens between you and everything else. The terrace has white stone railings, deep chairs, cypresses, and the entire bay underneath.
There are always beautiful cars parked out front, and the whole experience feels properly luxurious. Around six, guests start arriving back at the hotel and drift out onto the terrace with a glass of rosé before dinner.
Breakfast at Villa Belrose
Breakfast on the pool terrace was one of my favorite parts of staying here. There are pastries, fresh fruit, eggs, coffee, juices, and the full view over the bay. Do not plan too much for your first morning. You will stay longer than you think.
Le Belrose
The hotel’s restaurant is worth booking for dinner, or at least drinks before heading out. Go close to sunset if you can. The terrace overlooks the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, and it is one of those places where you want to be dressed up a little but it still feels relaxed.
Chef Jimmy Coutel’s menu is Mediterranean, and the cheese cart comes around at the end with around twenty cheeses under glass. Say yes to it.
Le Méditerranée is the poolside option for lunch. Easy, and no need to change out of what you are already wearing.
Room Service + Golden Hour
If you have a room with a terrace, leave one evening open for private room service and drinks on the balcony before dinner. The light over the water at golden hour is beautiful. My first night I wanted something light, so I ordered the chicken Caesar. It was delicious!
Getting Into Town
The hotel is in Gassin, about five minutes from Saint-Tropez by car. There is a courtesy car down to town and the beaches, which is easy, though it runs on the hotels schedule rather than yours. A car or driver makes the trip a bit easier if you want to move freely, especially for Pampelonne and dinners outside the port. However the Uber app works perfectly fine to get into town as well.
The road up is narrow and steep. Worth knowing before you arrive at night.
What I’d Book Again
If I went back, I would book a sea-view room, dinner at Le Belrose on the first or second night, and leave at least one full day unplanned at the hotel. The point of staying up here is that you do not have to be out in Saint-Tropez from morning to night.
When to Book
Villa Belrose is seasonal and opens roughly April through early October, so the good weeks go quickly.
Late May through early June is my favorite. Everything is open, the days are long, and you are there before the intense July and August crowds and booked-out reservations. I stayed in late May and paid around €800 a night for a garden terrace room. That was a win to me, and it is definitely not what you would pay in July.
My garden room was lovely and I was happy in it, but I would still book the sea view next time. The water is what you are paying to be up here for, and I think it is worth the difference.
September is the other time I would choose, when the water is warm and the crowds have thinned out.
If you are traveling in July or August, book months ahead and reserve dinner at Le Belrose when you book the room.
Best for: Couples, girls’ trips, a quieter Saint-Tropez stay, or anyone who wants beautiful views and an actual place to relax between plans.
Notes from Hailey
Ask for a sea-view room, not garden view. Book Le Belrose for sunset before you arrive. Leave one evening for room service on the terrace. It is worth losing a reservation over.
Bring something for a cooler evening. You are up in the hills and the temperature drops after dark. Pack a look for sunset. You will want photos on the terrace.
